Student Ambassador Program

Dearest Students and Friends:

I'm excited to let you know that E4FC is now accepting applications for our new Immigrant Student Ambassador Program.

The purpose of this new pilot program is to inspire, train, and mobilize Bay Area immigrant college students to be courageous, effective, and informed advocates for immigrant students nationwide.

Students accepted into the program will receive training in public speaking,media relations, campus organizing, and federal/state policy affecting immigrant college students; receive stipends of up to $600 (depending on their involvement in the program); and will be invited to apply for funds (up to $500) to support their organizing/advocacy efforts.

Who's eligible to apply?

- Foreign-born
- Lived in California for 3 or more years of high school career
- Enrollment in a college or university in Fall 2009
- San Francisco Bay Area residency. Must fulfill at least one of the following: 1) Previous graduation from a San Francisco Bay Area high school, or 2) Current enrollment in a San Francisco Bay Area college or university
- Previous community or extracurricular involvement
- Commitment to being an advocate for immigrant college students

Qualifying students will need to submit a written application, a personal essay of 500-1000 words, two recommendations, and evidence of birth outside the United States. Applications are due Friday, June 26, 2009.

OCA/Verizon Scholarship

OCA and Verizon are teaming up to provide OCA's first scholarship for students currently attending college. Ten (10) $2000 scholarships are available to college students.

Eligible applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
Identify as being part of the Asian Pacific American Community (please see FAQ for more specific details)
College student entering their Sophomore, Junior and Senior Years (Graduate students are not eligible to apply)
Demonstrate financial need
Be a permanent resident or U.S. citizen
Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
Specific Majors (listed in the application)
Applications can be found on http://www.ocanational.org. Deadline to submit or postmark applications is June 30, 2009.

The Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA) is hosting its 10th Biennial National Convention in Las Vegas, NV on July 9 - 12. We are looking for young, motivated API student activists who have been involved or want to get more involved with the national API labor movement.

Since its inception, the Hope Initiative Scholarship Program has upheld the aspiration to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for outstanding students with significant financial need to reach their highest potential. Year after year, Hope Initiative awards $1,000 scholarships to qualified, full-time attending high school, college, or graduate students in the United States. 2009 Tylenol Scholarships

Deadline: May 15, 2009

The Tylenol scholarship program helps students who are pursuing careers in the healthcare, life sciences, or related fields, manage the rising costs of education.

The program will award $250,000 in scholarships based on leadership qualities and academic performance, including ten $10,000 and thirty $5,000 grants.

Qualifications:

• Must be a resident of the 50 United States, Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia
• Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate or graduate course of study in the Spring of 2009 at an accredited two or four year college, university or vocational - technical school
• Must provide proof of enrollment to a public health/health education, medical school, nursing and/or pharmacy degree program
• Must have one or more years of school remaining
• Past winners are not eligible to apply or win for the 2009/2010 year
**Employees of McNeil Consumer and Specialty Pharmaceuticals, ISTS, Inc., their affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies and the families of each are not eligible.
